Message from our 262 President, Brandon Gillett
I am excited to share that our chapter newsletter is officially back! It’s been several years since the last edition, and the return of this publication is an important step forward for our chapter. This newsletter is one of the key ways we’re working to meet Chapter Goal #6: Increase and improve outreach and communication to members. By bringing back this resource, we’re creating a regular space to share updates, highlight member stories, and keep everyone connected to the work we’re doing together.
I also want to recognize the Newsletter Committee and our Communications Officer for making this possible. They have thoughtfully put in the effort required to get this project off the ground and ensure the first edition sets a strong foundation for future issues. Thanks to their work, we’ll have a tool that not only informs but also builds a stronger sense of community within our chapter.
Looking ahead, I encourage all of you to stay engaged and help shape what this newsletter becomes. Share your ideas, contribute your stories, and let us know what you’d like to see. Together, we’re building something that will keep our chapter informed, involved, and united. Here’s to the first of many editions to come!

Dear Stew,
I applied for reclassification in 2024. My manager has inquired about the status of my reclass and is told there are numerous requests ahead of mine. I recently read that someone was granted a reclass that was filed in 2023! This person waited two years. Did they continue to work out of class for two years while awaiting their outcome? Should I continue to do higher level work while I await a verdict? If I am not granted the reclass I have just spent two years doing work for which I was not compensated.
Sincerely,
Rita Reclass
Know your rights
Your contract spells out what you're entitled to—wages, benefits, work hours, job security, grievance procedures, and more. If you don’t read it, you might miss out on protections or benefits you’ve already earned.
Right to Representation
If you're disciplined or investigated at work, you may have the right to request union representation (e.g., Weingarten Rights in the U.S.). Knowing this helps you avoid going into situations alone where your job might be on the line.
Understand the Rules
It includes rules about promotions, transfers, layoffs, sick leave, vacation, and overtime. Understanding these helps you plan your work and life more confidently.
Negotiations Updates
Our CSEA 262 website has a new webpage with easy-to-reference negotiation updates. Keep up with our Negotiations Team’s discussions with the district.
Rizz the grizz embraces wellness time
As many of us are far too familiar with, in today’s fast-paced work environment, finding a balance between productivity and personal well-being can feel like a daunting task. That’s why Mt. SAC and CSEA 262 are proud to announce the On-Campus Wellness Time Policy.
Committee Spotlight
This year marked the launch of the Training Committee, a new and essential arm of our campus union, with Chrystin Green stepping up as its inaugural chair. With a deep commitment to empowering union members through knowledge, Green is leading a small but dedicated team of 5–6 members in building a strong foundation for training and education across the chapter.
